Any scheduled, planned, or promoted movie screening — regardless of whether it is hosted by a non-profit, government agency, school, or private group — requires a per-movie, per-event public performance license.
- This applies to Parks & Rec events, community screenings, fundraisers, and any event where a film is advertised in advance.
- Umbrella licenses generally cover only incidental, unplanned showings — such as putting on a movie at a senior center or kids club without prior scheduling or promotion.
- When in doubt, contact a licensing agency directly to confirm what coverage you need.
